Personal Update

So, I think it’s finally time to address something I’ve been skirting for awhile now. I’m not going to go into too many details both for my own privacy, and because I don’t think most people need or want the nitty gritty of it all. Please don’t ask for more.

A few years ago I started getting sick. Nothing major, but more often than somebody who was otherwise young and healthy- in every way they could find to measure such a thing, at least. It was something I was begrudgingly learning to cope with. After all, it could have been so much worse. Then the pandemic arrived.

My mental health has always affected my physiological health, it was something I knew about myself. So I was scared and depressed, weren’t we all? We lost our beloved puppy. Some family members got really sick. It was the perfect storm of awful. I felt like crap- it was no surprise. But I did the things that I knew that normally made me feel better, I felt my mental health improving, and yet it was still hard for me to get out of bed many days.

Remember that unintentional one year hiatus I took from writing? Y’all, I just didn’t have the energy. And when I did, I couldn’t plan ahead and didn’t want to post things with no plan or chapters in reserve. It was pretty devastating as writing has always been a wonderful escape for me.

The vaccine, and what I now realize was just good luck, helped. I had a few amazing months. I read, I wrote, I ran, I worked, I went out, and mostly I hung out with my husband who I didn’t even fully realize I missed so, so much even though he’d been here- never wavering- all along, because I simply hadn’t been myself for so long.

2022 hit hard, for no discernable reason. I was sick for weeks. It culminated a few weeks ago in the scariest 48 hours of my life, made scarier by the fact that we still didn’t know what was actually happening.

Yesterday I finally got a diagnosis. A non-life-threatening, treatable, diagnosis. I’m so, so grateful and relieved. I’m also crawling out of my skin to move, to write, to see my friends, to do anything other than stare at the backs of my eyelids or the ceilings of the various rooms of our house. I thank you all for you concerns recently and over the years. Please don’t ever hesitate to ask (politely) about my fics. Knowing people care has gotten me through some hard days and I’m infinitely grateful to y’all. Thank you a million times over ❤️❤️❤️
